Over the weekend, Jordan and I took on the task of staining our new front porch. Our front porch was looking pretty rough and then the hail had damaged it even worse, so we decided to just replace the whole thing. Our contractor, Chad Roberts, did that for us. We finally had a weekend that we were here and it wasn't going to rain all weekend, so we got to work. The project started off good, but started to go down hill towards the end of each day. The front porch faces the sun in the afternoon, so the entire afternoon the sun was blazing on us. Jordan and I have never done an outside project when it's 60 or 70 and no humidity. We ALWAYS do outside projects when it's 90, humid and miserable. We were very fortunate that a small cold front came through on Friday night, so Saturday was a little cooler than Sunday. It took ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday, 3 trips to home depot and somehow we didn't get in a single fight! I don't think we have EVER done a project where we didn't get in some sort of fight, so this was a big deal for us. We had a couple little spats but that was mainly because we were so tired and soooo hot. We have also decided our DIY projects are coming to an end and we will just pay someone the next time. :)
Here are the pictures:
You can see all the wood damage
What do you think?!?!?
We will never try and paint lattice work again, we will hire someone. :)

WOW love it! I didn't realize you had had a hail storm with damage until I read your blog. Did you just replace the stairs or the entire porch across the front of the house? I think ya'll have this staining thing down to a science now. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed! You guys did such a good job!! Can't wait to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember last June when ya'll came to visit Bham and I was pregnant and you helped with the tornado clean up??? I started my stair project the day you left and as of today, they are still UNFINISHED! I say all of that to illustrate how empathetic I am to the misery of staining the treads and painting the uprights! I can't believe you got it done in a day (well, I guess I can...). It looks GREAT!
